WorldFood Azerbaijan 2013: the best achievements of agro-industry
On May 22, the Baku Expo Centre traditionally became the venue for holding the largest exhibition in the region showcasing world achievements in the field of the food industry. Here, the Azerbaijan International Food Industry Exhibition, WorldFood Azerbaijan-2013, organised by Iteca Caspian LLC and ITE Group plc, began its work. The exhibition is organised with the active support of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
In his speech at the official opening ceremony, the Minister of Agriculture Ismet Abbasov emphasised the role of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev in the development of the national economy, particularly the agricultural sector. Azerbaijani President Mr Ilham Aliyev, paying close attention to the development of agriculture, not only draws our attention to the growth and consolidation of the agricultural industry, but also sets out the task of exporting local products to the world market. The Minister further noted that the current exhibition demonstrates the successful policy of the state, which has one of the fastest growing economies in the world. In this regard, the role of agriculture role in strengthening the domestic economy leads to a feeling of pride. Over the past year, the growth in the overall performance of the agricultural industry in Azerbaijan amounted to some seven per cent. For the first four months of 2013, this growth figure has already reached four per cent. Therefore, experts and industry employees appreciate the value of exhibitions, which become larger from year to year and lead to increased business cooperation.
Executive Director of the ITE Group Plc, Mr Edward Strachan, in welcoming the participants at the exhibition, noted its value as an effective platform to strengthen business relationships, find corporate partners and implement new technologies in the food industry of Azerbaijan. This demonstrates the rapidly growing international interest in the forum, and the increase in the number of participants and investors at WorldFood Azerbaijan 2013. The current exhibition has attracted a record number of exhibitors - 179 companies from 31 countries of the world, showing a 27 per cent increase in both the number of participants and the exhibition area. Mr Strachan expressed gratitude to Minister Abbasov for the long-term cooperation and presented him with a certificate of Iteca Caspian LLC on behalf of the organisers.
During a VIP tour, guests and visitors became acquainted with the numerous stands at the exhibition. The advantage of all exhibits lies in the fact that they can not only be viewed, but also can be tried. This naturally attracts the attention of everybody. The best tasting sweets and pastries, cheeses, sausages, seafood, tea, juices and wines, fruits and berries, pasta and spaghetti, preserves and jams, yogurts, candies, nuts, chips and ketchup overwhelm the exhibition showcases. Some companies have tasty surprises in store for visitors: innovative culinary solutions, including a master class in the processing and preparation of meat, the process of bread making, and drinks tasting. The abundance of juicy, tender, fragrant snacks and desserts indicates that the local food industry stands firmly on its feet, and is developing steadily. Among the local exhibitors are the well-known Azersun Holding Company, the Gabala Canning Factory, Shirin LLC, Milla and other firms, as well as those companies making their debut, which have been given a unique opportunity to demonstrate their potential to a large audience. A separate stand represents the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
The presence of foreign products, goods, technologies and services emphasises the possibility of serious competition, the struggle for quality and the best deals. Traditionally, the exhibition is dominated by companies from the CIS and Europe. This year's newcomers, including companies from Azerbaijan, Russia, the USA and Turkey make up 45 per cent of all the participants. Along with commercial organisations the WorldFood Azerbaijan exhibition includes national stands from Latvia, Belgium and Iran, and companies from Uzbekistan and Jordan are visiting Baku for the first time. Azerbaijan, Hungary, Lithuania, Russia, Turkey, the Czech Republic and other countries are showing packaging machines and equipment for the production of packaging components, packaging materials and finished products, labelling products, and glass containers.
Traditionally the WorldFood Azerbaijan event combines several thematic exhibitions: food industry (WorldFood), beverages (WorldDrink) and technology (WorldFoodTech). The packaging sector is presented in the Ipack Caspian-2013, Caspian International Packaging, Tare, Label and Printing Exhibition, which is being held for the second consecutive year in conjunction with WorldFood Azerbaijan.
In addition to demonstrating products at the exhibition, events that are useful and interesting for businessmen will be organised. For example, the Global Marketing Group company's seminar on ‘Production Planning, Warehouse Management (WMS) and the Optimisation of Routes for the distribution of goods by distributors’ will take place in the framework of the business programme on May 23 from 10:00 to 18:00. Another workshop will be conducted by Aqrokimya on May 23, from 11.00 to 13.00 in the Baku Expo Centre. In addition, there are many more interesting events.
AgriHort Azerbaijan-2013, the 7th Azerbaijan International Agriculture Exhibition, which annually brings together leading representatives from the agrarian sector, producers and suppliers of agricultural products is held in parallel with WorldFood Azerbaijan in the Baku Expo Center. The exhibition is attended by companies from Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Hungary, Germany, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Russia, Ukraine, France and other countries. The growth rate in the exhibition area of AgriHort Azerbaijan is 87 per cent compared with last year.
